Who deserves props for being an integral part of what makes Durham, Durham?
“The Bulls of Durham” living history book project is unique in that it is being created in the public eye. Since inception, it has taken on a life of its own, strengthened community, shed light on overlooked Durham gems and built a lasting platform our city can proudly showcase as, “This is who we are. This is what makes Durham, Durham.”
With over 100 incrediBULL Durhamite interviews, countless hours of research and writing, 1000s of followers and over 2000 bull love mug sales, “The Bulls of Durham” is stampeding towards completion.
This living history book blends Durham’s rich history with stories and perspectives of our city’s greats who are continuing to build upon that history. And in this way, this is the story of Durham, North Carolina through the bulls’ eyes.
It would be remiss to say that this project is solely a book. The project began with a blog and social media to share the progress. It grew into a community resource to learn about Durham events, opportunities and history. The book launch will be paired with Durham Public Schools receiving copies and a museum exhibit that is free and open to the public.
As if all that isn’t incrediBULL enough, something else has happened on the way to completing this book.
I stumBULLed upon some more Durham magic.
And… wait for it… again.
It’s probaBULL that this is going to continue happening.
The magic I’m referencing are Bull City Gems.
Durham seems to have something going on in every nook and cranny of the city. There are an incrediBULL number of businesses, organizations and people doing unBULLievaBULL things to make the best city even better with each passing day. And they’re straight up not getting the attention that they deserve.
Let’s do what we do best in the Bull City and collaborate. In addition to unearthing potential interviewees for “The Bulls of Durham” living history book project, I want to shine light on these Gems throughout the city and spread the Durham magic.
During April 2018, I’m compiling a list of 100 Bull City Gems to start and I want your help. Fill out the form below to shine some light on your favorite Durham gem.
This isn’t an opportunity for shameless plugs or free promotion, but rather a chance to let what makes Durham special shine. There’s so much potential, compassion and drive in this city it’s incomprehensiBULL.
Psst… while there’s no room for shameless promotion on TheBullsOfDurham.com, there is a special place for loud, proud, not messing around, Bull City style promotion right HERE.
Who? What? Where deserves more attention in Durham? Who is changing lives, saving puppies and changing the world by being brave enough to share who they are? Who has the best coffee in all the land? These things are important.
The Bull City's diversity has always been and will always be its strength. As our city is growing so are the number of incrediBULL people, places and programs that make our city the best city. Let's shine some light on gems throughout the city to really show the world what makes Durham standout.
