Bull City Staycation at Cambria Hotel Near Duke

Life happens. After a year and 8 failed attempts to fix a minor shower issue, my apartment complex decided to completely overhaul my shower to REALLY fix it good. Well, that also meant that my shower was out of commission for 48 hours in the middle of the busiest work week of my life. Also said week fell smack dab in the middle of the Southern summer. I made the executive decision to take a staycation at Cambria Hotel near Duke.

The team at Cambria have been huge supporters of “The Bulls of Durham” living history book project. From hosting a book event in June to most recently becoming both one of our Community Partners and a BULLoved Vendor. Guests can pick up a copy of “Welcome to the Bull City” mini-book in the lobby when they visit. Prime location for the little book with big heart to shine as Cambria is near Duke University Medical Center, Duke University, and the VA Medical Center. The exact type of Bull City visitors we want leaving with a bright view of the Bull City.

As I rarely, if ever, leave Durham I almost reversed my executive decision at just thought of booking a room. Here’s the part where I reveal I’m spoiled, I mean well taken care of, and reached out to my friend Natasha Maggitt who is the Director of Sales and Marketing there. She took care of everything for me. All I had to do is check-in. That being said I could have easily gone to their website or called them at 919-286-311. Here’s to the women who make our lives easier.

I stayed in the main building right at the corner of Elba and Fulton Streets but noticed there is another Cambria building. Turns out they have two buildings and the Pavilion building is PERFECT for sports groups, wedding parties, or hey, this is Durham, music festival-goers. It’s like having your own hotel when you rent out a block. Room keys to either building get you access to the Pavilion, which offers a pool and fitness center. Both things I will take advantage of on my next staycation.

The convenient location made it easy to enjoy the feeling of a one night vacation and still be at work on time the next morning. I enjoyed dinner at their Social Circle Restaurant and still had time to go back up to my room and prepare for the next day’s meetings. The mini-fridge in my room was a perfect place to keep all my snacks for the next day, so I didn’t have to run back to my place before all my meetings. The coffee pot in my room, well that was just a lifesaver. I need coffee alone before I can coffee with people. Facts.

My only regret is not using their shuttle service that actually could have taken me to my first meeting of the day, from which I could have walked to everything else. Add that to my list for the next staycation, or perhaps my next staycation could be an actual staycation with no worky-work.

Whether you’re a Bull City resident or just visiting the greatest city in the world, Cambria makes for a great stay. I’m not just saying that because of their amazing showers and mirrors with perfect lighting.
